Students from Cambridge’s Putnam Avenue Upper School got a flavor of materials science, from glassblowing and making simple engines to making fluid nitrogen frozen dessert, at MIT come early july.
The Materials Research Laboratory’s components analysis Science and Engineering Center (MRSEC) hosted 15 students and their technology teacher, Fatima Sammy, for a few days of hands-on research and engineering tasks.
The curriculum also included metal casting, building solar panels, designing items with fused glass, exploring ultraviolet light, polymer demonstrations, and making electric circuits, also participating in the “Fish Game,” a mobile-device-enabled game designed to build students’ knowledge of complex systems.
Courses are taught by MIT staff, technical trainers, graduate students, and undergraduates. Pupils were on university from 8:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. daily.
Fundamental targets regarding the program are to demonstrate to youthful adolescents that technology and engineering is fun, introduce them into the industry of products technology, and also them encounter research and manufacturing on a university campus.
