Crisis Management Twitter Chat Thursday
Social Media Week is two weeks away and we will be presenting different cases on social media crisis management, what went wrong and what went nuts for different companies.
We will be previewing the event by having a Twitter chat this Thursday, and discuss one of the largest social media flops so far this year.

This is one of the most recent cases:
Last Friday, the pastor of St. Louis-based church Truth in the World Deliverance Ministries took her congregation to an Applebee’s after an evening service. The receipt for the meal added an 18 percent gratuity, which is restaurant policy for parties of eight or more. However, Pastor Alois Bell crossed out the 18 percent and left the server a note that said:
“I give God 10% why do you get 18.”
“An employee at the Applebee’s took a picture of the receipt and this week posted it to Reddit, where it went viral,” Michael Sebastian, PR Daily.
This is the beginning of a story that just keeps getting worse by the minute. First the waitress who shared the image to reddit was fired (not the same waitress who served the pastor), then redditors began complaining about the act on Facebook and Twitter, and finally their social media manager began responding at 3 a.m. with panicked replies. At this moment there is even a FaceBook Page with a petition (among many) asking the restaurant to hire back Chelsea Welch, and customers are posting this on Applebee’s FaceBook Page. Now we wonder what will Applebee’s respond with this time.
To get a glimpse of what has been occurring, take a look at this photo essay, and the original thread on reddit.
